We live by faith, not by sight. (2 Cor. 5:7)

Trust in the Lord

Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding;
in all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight.    (Proverbs 3:5-6 NIV)
This is one of my favorite passages in all of scripture. It says so much in a simple way. We are told to trust Him completely, yet we all know the difficult time we have with this simple concept. As I write these words, God brought to my mind how He is the Creator and Maker of all things. All things were made by Him. We ourselves have our life and breath from Him.
For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother's womb.
I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well.
My frame was not hidden from you when I was made in the secret place. When I was woven together in the depths of the earth,
your eyes saw my unformed body. All the days ordained for me were written in your book before one of them came to be.    (Psalms 139:13-16 NIV)
Everything in all Creation declares its Maker's praise.
The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of his hands.
Day after day they pour forth speech; night after night they display knowledge.
There is no speech or language where their voice is not heard.    (Psalms 19:1-3 NIV)
As we consider and rejoice in what He has made, we can also see how everyone in the world trusts Him, though most people don't know Him. Everyone and everything is from God. All the workings of this physical world which we rely on are from Him. The design of our lungs and the air we breath each moment is a product of His infinite wisdom and power. We are in His Hands and Care whether we realize it or not. We trust in the brain He has created to plan our lives. We use the wood, the rock and the minerals He created to build our homes and our cities. We see the beauty He has made in the oceans, the birds, the skies with the eyes He has made. We trust that the sun will rise each day and that the earth will continue its' course through the solar system as it has in the past. All these things which we have no control over and only limited understanding, we trust completely to function properly and provide for our needs.

I could go on and on about all the ways we, even those who don't know Him, trust in the Lord throughout each day. The wonderful truth is that you trust in the Lord far more than you think you do. You may look at your life and think you don't trust Him, but you have trusted Him all your days on this earth. Every day you trust what He has made to sustain your very life. You test out His wonderful creation with every breath you take. It all works in an incredible way and testifies to the wisdom and goodness of our Creator.

The challenge, then, is to open our eyes to how we really do trust Him in all that we do and all that we are. The world and our sinful hearts have conspired to deceive us into thinking God is not relevant and we can and do live our lives apart from Him. Nothing could be further from the truth. Accept that you do trust Him and allow your thoughts and your heart to rest in this truth. I can't think of any other way to describe it except that it's so obvious. It's all around us. I pray that the eyes of your heart would be open to see and trust Him.
