Who is Jesus?
A relationship with God is only possible through His Son Jesus Christ. We must have a correct understanding of Him to have any relationship with God.
Jesus answered, "I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. (John 14:6 NIV)
Creator, Maker of All Heaven and Earth
He is the God Almighty, the Creator of the Universe. Every plant and animal was created from nothing by His will and power. We are all the creation of His hand.
In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was with God in the beginning. Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made. (John 1:1-3 NIV)
He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation. For by him all things were created: things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or powers or rulers or authorities; all things were created by him and for him. He is before all things, and in him all things hold together. (Colossians 1:15-17 NIV)
If He sounds more important and significant than anyone you have ever heard of in your life, you are most certainly right. So He is God. An incredible truth, but how is this significant to you?
He came to earth as a man.
Jesus came to live on this earth as a man, but not an ordinary man. The very Creator of the Universe was born literally in a barn in the small town of Bethlehem in Palestine.
But the angel said to them, "Do not be afraid. I bring you good news of great joy that will be for all the people. Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he is Christ the Lord. This will be a sign to you: You will find a baby wrapped in cloths and lying in a manger." (Luke 2:10-12 NIV)
The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the One and Only, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth. (John 1:14 NIV)
He grew up as anyone else experiencing all things like anyone else. He knew all the challenges and struggles of any man yet like no one who has ever lived on earth, He was without sin. He was, and is, perfect.
And Jesus grew in wisdom and stature, and in favor with God and men. (Luke 2:52 NIV)
but we have one who has been tempted in every way, just as we are--yet was without sin. (Hebrews 4:15b NIV)
Yet He did much more than just live a good life here on earth.
He Served with Power and Compassion
He lived among the people with power and compassion. He healed the sick, gave sight to the blind and gave hope to the hopeless.
The disciples went and woke him, saying, "Lord, save us! We're going to drown!" He replied, "You of little faith, why are you so afraid?" Then he got up and rebuked the winds and the waves, and it was completely calm. The men were amazed and asked, "What kind of man is this? Even the winds and the waves obey him!" (Matthew 8:25-27 NIV)
When the Sabbath came, he began to teach in the synagogue, and many who heard him were amazed. "Where did this man get these things?" they asked. "What's this wisdom that has been given him, that he even does miracles! (Mark 6:2 NIV)
When Jesus saw her weeping, and the Jews who had come along with her also weeping, he was deeply moved in spirit and troubled. "Where have you laid him?" he asked. "Come and see, Lord," they replied. Jesus wept. Then the Jews said, "See how he loved him!" (John 11:33-36 NIV)
These things by themselves are immensely more incredible than what any man on earth has ever done, but this was not even His most important work. He came for another reason.
He came to earth for you
The Creator of the Universe came to earth for you. He came to give His life for you. He died that you might live.
"For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. (John 3:16 NIV)
but whoever drinks the water I give him will never thirst. Indeed, the water I give him will become in him a spring of water welling up to eternal life." (John 4:14 NIV)
For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many." (Mark 10:45 NIV)
Why Did He Have to Die?
He died because God loves us more than any words can ever describe. God wants to have intimate fellowship with us, but, because He is holy and pure, He cannot have fellowship with us as we are. Our condition as those who have sinned against God and gone our own way, must be dealt with truthfully and justly.
As it is written: "There is no one righteous, not even one; (Romans 3:10 NIV)
for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, (Romans 3:23 NIV)
Jesus Christ came to this world to die in our place.
Jesus replied, "The hour has come for the Son of Man to be glorified. I tell you the truth, unless a kernel of wheat falls to the ground and dies, it remains only a single seed. But if it dies, it produces many seeds. (John 12:23-24 NIV)
"Now my heart is troubled, and what shall I say? 'Father, save me from this hour'? No, it was for this very reason I came to this hour. (John 12:27 NIV)
But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us. (Romans 5:8 NIV)
What should I do?
You must understand you are separated from God, like all persons in this world, because you have rejected God and gone your own way. You have sinned and you cannot come into His presence in your current condition. Acknowledging your need, you simply must put your faith and trust in Christ death on the cross on your behalf. You can come to the Holy, Awesome God of the Universe in complete peace and joy through Jesus Christ and Him alone.
Jesus answered, "I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. (John 14:6 NIV)
And you also were included in Christ when you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation. Having believed, you were marked in him with a seal, the promised Holy Spirit who is a deposit guaranteeing our inheritance until the redemption of those who are God's possession--to the praise of his glory. (Ephesians 1:13-14 NIV)
As you come to God in faith through Christ alone, you are "saved" or "born again". It is a miracle which God performs in your heart by His power
"I tell you the truth, whoever hears my word and believes him who sent me has eternal life and will not be condemned; he has crossed over from death to life. (John 5:24 NIV)
You can now enjoy unbroken, direct fellowship with the God of the Universe. You now have eternal life. God rejoices to have you as part of His family (bold added by me).
"Suppose one of you has a hundred sheep and loses one of them. Does he not leave the ninety-nine in the open country and go after the lost sheep until he finds it? And when he finds it, he joyfully puts it on his shoulders and goes home. Then he calls his friends and neighbors together and says, 'Rejoice with me; I have found my lost sheep.' I tell you that in the same way there will be more rejoicing in heaven over one sinner who repents than over ninety-nine righteous persons who do not need to repent. (Luke 15:4-7 NIV)
If you have made this decision, I would encourage you to read other parts of this web site and seek to understand how you can have continuous fellowship and friendship with our wonderful Savior. The decision to put your faith and trust in Jesus Christ and His death on the cross on your behalf is the most important you will ever make and it will completely change your life.
